The fish­ing is tremen­dous, the scenery is breath­tak­ing and the adven­ture never ends! At any one time there are thou­sands of vis­i­tors crowd­ing other areas of Wyoming’s beau­ti­ful moun­tains. The clos­est lodg­ing facil­ity to Louis Lake is 12 miles away! The clos­est town, Lan­der, is 28 miles away! So the soli­tude is incred­i­ble here.

The Con­ti­nen­tal Divide Win­ter Trail passes directly in front of Louis Lake Lodge. There are approx­i­mately 100 miles of groomed snow­mo­bile trails in the imme­di­ate area. The groomed CDWT runs from Louis Lake to Moran Junction.

Dri­ving Directions:

•  From Rock Springs go north on high­way 191 for 40 miles to Far­son. Get an ice cream and more gas in Far­son. Turn right onto high­way 28, toward Lan­der, and go 45 miles to the “Loop Road” on the left. (Watch for Louis Lake sign at mile marker 45.) Then only 10 more miles on the dirt “Loop Road”.

•  From Rawl­ins go north on high­way 287 / 789 for 45 miles to Muddy Gap junc­tion. Stay on 287 / 789 left toward Jef­frey City . Go left on high­way 28 for 15 miles till you see Louis Lake signs at mile marker 45. Turn right on the dirt “Loop Road” for 10 miles.

•  From Casper go west on high­way 220 for 75 miles to Muddy Gap junc­tion. Turn right onto high­way 287 / 789 toward Jef­frey City. Go left on high­way 28, toward Far­son, for 15 miles till you see Louis Lake signs at mile marker 45. Turn right on the dirt “Loop Road” for 10 miles.

•  From Jack­son go south­east on 287 for 130 miles to Lan­der. In down­town Lan­der turn right or south (5th or 6th street) toward “Sinks” Canyon on state road 131. Stop by the Sinks canyon visitor’s cen­ter, it’s worth it! This road will even­tu­ally turn into the dirt “Loop Road” and bring you to Louis Lake. (25 miles total with switch­backs.)   SEE NOTE ABOVE

•  From Kem­merer go north on high­way 189 for 30 miles. Turn right onto state road 372 for 25 miles. Turn left onto state road 28 toward Far­son, which is 30 more miles. Get an ice cream and more gas in Far­son. Stay on 28, toward Lan­der, for another 45 miles to the dirt “Loop Road” on the left. (Watch for Louis Lake sign at mile marker 45.) Then only 10 miles on the dirt “Loop Road”.\

•  The less trav­eled path from Evanston. From inter­state 80 take high­way 372 north at exit # 83, the LaBarge Road which is 15 miles east of Lit­tle Amer­ica . Fol­low 372 north for 27 miles till you see high­way 28 to the right. Take high­way 28 toward Far­son, which is only 30 miles. Get an ice cream and more gas in Far­son. Stay on 28, toward Lan­der, for another 45 miles to the “Loop Road” on the left. (Watch for Louis Lake sign at mile marker 45.) Then only 10 miles on the dirt “Loop Road”.

Sur­round­ing Area?:
There are three For­est Ser­vice camp­grounds along the Loop Road. One on the south end of Louis Lake, another about six miles down the Loop Road on the west side of Fid­dlers Lake, and one at Worthen Reser­voir. These camp­grounds have prim­i­tive facil­i­ties and lim­ited space. Charges are $10 – $15 per night. Other facil­i­ties are 30 miles to the north in Sinks Canyon.?? Pop­u­lar back­pack­ing sites are located at Christina Lake, which trail head begins at Louis Lake Lodge. Christina Lake is a nat­ural lake that was enlarged dur­ing the 1880’s. Located 5 miles from Louis Lake at 9,800′. Chris­t­ian Lake is approx­i­mately 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. Nature at it’s best up there – won­der­ful fish­ing and scenery.
